About the Department

Overview

The department of computer science is housed in the School of Computing and Informatics. It is the oldest department in the school and currently offers two undergraduate degree programmes, as well as postgraduate programmes at masters and doctorate levels.

The department of computer science degree programs is geared towards training, research, and development, encompassing current trends and cutting-edge theories and technologies.

 

VISION

To be a Center of Excellence and choice in training, research, and development in computer science and computer technology.

 

MISSION

The Mission of the department, in line with the University mission,  is to foster and develop academic excellence in basic and applied research at all levels of study by training practice-oriented computer scientists, who can contribute effectively to social, intellectual, and academic development in the community, the nation and the community of nations.

QUALITY OBJECTIVES

The department of Computer Science is committed to ensuring the University Quality Objectives are met as it carries out its role of teaching, research, and development. To this end, the department has developed and strictly adheres to a customer-oriented service charter. The department will always seek to communicate exhaustively with its students, parents/sponsors, customers, and internally with its employees, to continually improve its services, products, processes, methods, and work environment to ensure each customer is receiving the highest quality service or product at the committed cost and on time.

In order to realize this commitment the department, in line with University Management, will monitor and review its quality performance from time to time through the implementation of an effective quality management system based on ISO 9001:2000 standard.
